I like Stoicism. I might have read everything about it, but nothing from the new age gurus. My fav. is Epistulae Morales ad Lucilium. In this pandemic time people are using it for coping mechanism . Sometimes it is less painful to disengage than to continue with the challenges of life and sustain your passions.
Stoicism rose in ancient Rome as citizens began to experience that it was less painful to withdraw than to go along and put themselves out there. Stoicism became a philosophy, a way of coping — a kind of learned helplessness. Stoicism creates tough individuals, and there is no doubt about it. Stoicism feels perfect when everything in the world seems to be going south.
It is not a guide for deep spiritual journey as it misses compassion and it over-states self-sufficiency
