Such a disturbing quote -

When confronted with extreme suffering or evil, people may adopt survival mechanisms—detachment, rationalization, or even mimicry of what they fight against. This can erode moral integrity and create cognitive dissonance.

In psychology, this aligns with the idea that prolonged exposure to darkness can reshape one's moral compass. Police officers investigating heinous crimes, soldiers in prolonged wars, or activists fighting corruption often find themselves at risk of adopting the very behaviors they once despised.

Many modern movements that begin with moral righteousness can descend into extremism. Whether in politics, ideology, or war, those who fight perceived "monsters" often justify unethical actions as necessary, leading to the very tyranny they opposed.

It can be rationalized with this Thucydides's quote - "The strong do what they can, and the weak suffer what they must.”

Strong mix of Identity dissolution via prolonged introspection and Shadow projection in adversarial dynamics - not good.
